John Garden, Calgary Ward 2 Nominee
September 24, 2025John Garden
Ward 2 Candidate for 2025 Calgary Civic Election
I have been in the energy industry for 45 years, starting as an oilfield cementer and moving through the ranks to station manager and field sales. I worked Central Alberta, Lloydminster, S.E. Saskatchewan and moved to Red Deer to run tools and worked wireline.
I returned to university and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. I opened my first consulting engineering firm, managing drilling, completions and production operations in all areas of Western Canada. Thanks to support from my clients, many of whom started in junior oil and gas companies, my firm grew to managing projects in Ukraine, the United States, Trinidad and Albania.
Through my willingness to learn and openness to new ventures, I founded, co-founded or joined many public and private companies as director or C-Suite. Businesses that have taken me around the world, exposing me to many different cultures and points of view.
I still have my Class 1A licence and have an active farm in Saskatchewan. I am a hands on engineer with practical field experience and not afraid to get dirty. With my strong entrepreneurial spirit, I understand how far a dollar will go and the responsibility of investing not only my own, but investors money.
I have given back to an industry that has provided our city with enormous opportunity. And potential.
I have mentored students at the University of Calgary and SAIT, and I have taught a new generation of energy industry leaders at SAIT.
